Remote reboot

Hello,

Looking for a little guidance here. I've been put in charge of a project that I know very little about. I've been asked to come up with a solution to remotely reboot network equipment that goes down at off site locations (around the country).

I've been able to find a few options, but have not been able to find any reviews on them. I was hoping some of the members here might either have experience with the products, or could point me in the right direction.

We need to be able to reboot a modem, router, and possibly switches when we lose internet at a remote location. I feel that the best solution is one that will let me "call" the equipment and have it cycle power.

One of the devices I'm looking at is the Power Mate - Black Box. Seems to fulfill my needs at a good price

Dataprobe also makes a good product (or so I think) but it is a little pricey. I am looking at the iBootBar.

Does anyone have any experience with these devices or possible guidance? It would nice to not have to "test" something out by spending $200+

Thank you very much in advance~^^

so i take it you cannot just establish a secure connection w/ the device, log into it, then reboot it from there? you could almost just "remote desktop" into the device and power it off from there.

or do you need to be able to physically kill the power to your devices?

Well if the location has no internet, then I cannot login to the modem or router to reset it. Which is why I'm looking at the dial in possibility.

When we lose internet connection at a location the first step is to reboot the equipment to see if it comes up. If so, great! If not, then we have to call the ISP and go from there to get stuff up and running again.

We usually have to find someone at the club who knows where the modem is, then we have to have them reset it, and that's a tiem consuming process. It would be a lot nicer/easier to be able to reset the equipment ourselves.

So I believe that yes, I would like to be able to kill the power as a way of resetting the equipment ourselves.

I hope this makes a little more sense

before spending all sorts of money, it might be easier and more cost efficient if you were to show someone at the remote location how to reboot the modem etc. maybe put all the appliances on one power strip/ups/etc. and show them how to turn it off/on. i don't know of any devices off the top of my head that has a built-in dial-up modem. you might need to put a pc w/ a modem at the location, dial into the pc, then from the pc, remote into a dataprobe device to turn it off and on.
