Did you run the network connection wizard on both XP computers involved and enable file and printer sharing?
Also, did you install the printer (as a network printer) on the XP Home computer? Keep in mind that the XP Pro computer the printer is connected to has to be on.

Has the XP Pro Machine established a share for the printer? You will note the networking icon beneath the printer name in your Printers and Faxes folder.
Be sure that you have allowed access to the printer. Also, open the Properties for the printer and make sure that Always Available is selected on the Advanced tab.

Yes the computer is on... :-) Wizard run on all systems. Printer set up for networking / sharing all the time on teh XP Pro. I can connect and print to the printer from all the other PC's in the house.
Do I need to set up ID's on the XP Home and then the XP Pro PC? I guess then I will need to start logon on tothe XP Home system? |

ok im so stuck with this stupid xp networking nonsense, all im trying to do is share files between 4 pcs, 1 desktop and 3 laptops. I don't know whats so difficult but the 2 xp home laptops are finding it really hard to communicate with the the other 2 systems. The other laptop has MCE and the desktop has xp pro (these two have no probs communicatign with each other) my desktop can even communicate with the laptops but the laptops fail to see the desktops shared folder. It's reall bizarre.

Yh i did the netbios thingy before still no luck it seems really strange, now on one of the laptops i can use my shared music but i still can't see the folder it just auto detects it using media player.
So how can I add a network place in xp home if i can't access the domain? Last edited by davbren : December 13th, 2006 at 12:16 PM. |
