No wireless connection on HP laptop

Hey all, newbie here so I hope I explain this correctly and that I'm in the right place.

I've got an HP pavillion laptop that will not connect to any wireless network.

I've uninstalled the network adapter and re-booted - nada
I've gone through trouble shooter - nada
Bought a new wireless card and installed it - still nada

When going through Network Setup Wizard, The wizard found disconnected hardware.

Connections:
Wireless Network Connection 2 Intel PRO/wirell 2200BG network connection

Local Area Connection Realtek RTL8139/810 Family Fast Ethernet NIC

The Intel is the same on my IBM, and I've compared the settings and to me they look the same.

I hope this is the right place, If I need to go to one of the other forums, let me know. I don't want to clutter up the place.

Thanks for any info
Any thoughts?

No, when I click "view available networks", it says no networks available.

I am currently using the network on MY computer as we speak, so I know it's functioning.

I'm using Windows wireless manager.

FYI - I forgot to mention I was told it was working at my friends house after his wife had internet connected at their house. They live out in BFE so I believe they are using a dial-up connection.

Which model Pavilion do you have?

Look for an orange light/indicator. If there is one, then the wireless has been disabled by a switch; depending on the model, this could be a slide-switch or a touch-button (the indicator itself).

That's the easy one. The difficult one is if Windows is disabling it because someone told it to. Convincing Win to reverse that decision is a pain in the butt. Which OS?

To all who helped with my wireless problem, I give you many, many thanks.

as it turns out, I'm an idiot.

There is a button in the middle directly under the HP logo under the monitor. It has a little antennae looking thing with little radio waves radiating out from it.

When you push this button, PRESTO.......... A little blue line indicator lights up and .......... You guessed it, My wireless card is turned on.

Thank you all again, you were all very helpful with this problem and I really appreciate your time, input and mostly your willingness to help someone out.
