Network surge protection

Hi,

I have recently bought an MGE UPS that has ethernet surge protection. The network cable that enters my computer is a straight trough because it origins from a router. When I plug that cable in the UPS (the other end is still in the router) and I make an additional cable with the same wire order (from UPS to PC) I have no connection. Does anyone know how should I make the wire order in order to get fully functional product? (The manual does not contain information like this)

Thanx

i wouldnt bother about surge protecting your cat5 cables, just make sure the router is surge protected and it should be fine.
