Need help wireless printing

Here is my setup:
1 laptop computer
1 wireless router
1 printer (multifunctional, Epson CX6600)

I want to be able to print wirelessly. I have read the previous post here explaining that printing with a wireless router requires a print server. However, I had bought one in the past and it wouldn't work. After hours on the phone with Linksys tech support, it turns out that print servers often don't support multifuntional printers! I wrote to D-Link to see if their print server would work - they didn't know. I wrote to Epson to see if they could recommend a print server that would work - they couldn't.

Please excuse my ignorance, but I have seen some "bluetooth adaptors" online and am wondering if there is some kind of configuration that I could use to connect my laptop and printer via bluetooth. I don't believe that the printer comes with bluetooth technology built in.

I really would like to be able to print wirelessly, but I don't understand the technologies well enough - am I out of luck without having either a computer or a print server hardwired to my printer?

Thanks in advance,
Janna

1. connect the printer to your desktop computer.
2. right-click on the printer and click "share"
3. on laptop, open a folder and type \\desktops_name
4. inside the folder, you will see the shared resources on the desktop.
5. right-click on the printer and click "connect"
6. print a test page to make sure it works.

Unfortunately, per my original post, I don't have a desktop computer. I only have a laptop, which I want to use away from the printer hookup.

Thanks for trying,
Janna

i'm so sorry about that. i don't know where i got desktop from. oops well, i don't know what to tell you except you'll probably have to just connect the printer to the laptop. i've used a netgear and belkin print server in the past and none of the scan/fax functions of the aio printers would work. a friend of mine purchased a belkin bluetooth usb adapter for his printer. he attempted to connect his hp aio printer and only the print function would work, just like regular print servers.

Thanks again :-) I don't mind if the scan/fax functions don't work wirelessly, I just want to print. The Linksys print server that I have will get my printer to print half a page and then the lights start blinking on the server and the printer freezes up. I still should maybe try another brand of print server and/or a bluetooth set up. Maybe I will luck out...

Thanks for your insight!
Janna

Dear Sandman...,

I have a desktop. My HP6200 printer is connected via cable to the desktop. I have a Vaio laptop and a Linksys Wireless Router. I want to print from my laptop to the printer without a cable, via the wireless router.

Please clarify step #3, "on laptop, open a folder and type //destops_name".

My questions:
[] Do I open/create a New folder or open an existing folder?
[] Where do I type //desktops_name?
[] I am unable to type '//' in the folder name. These are invalid characters.
[] When typing, do I replace 'name' with my desktop computer name or my laptop computer name?

Thank you very mucho!

C47Guy

Open your Documents or Computer folder (any folder will do) and enter the name of your desktop in the address bar.

You can find the name of your desktop going to Start > Control Panel > System. It will be under the computer name tab/section.
