Linksys WRT54G help with BitTorrent Problems
I have a WRT54G, and run a WIN XP sp2 machine. Whenever I use bit torrent on my machine, it seems to screw up my internet surfing capablities. It says i'm still connected to my network, but it takes forever to load a webpage and not always loads one. It'll say, looking up www.******.com and then eventually load it, but it takes approx 5 times longer to load than normal. I have forwarded my ports to my computer, and am the only one in the house that uses BT. There must be a fix for this. Currently my fix, is to bite the bullet until my torrents finish, close my client, power cycle the router, and then i'm fine again. This is a pain in my you know what.

bittorrent takes up alot of sys ram and bandwidth, its not a suprise that it would slow up your surfing. ID get BitTornado , its the best client, nice and tiny. THEN (as the mighty tejas solved for me) go to www.portforward.com
and look up instructions for your specific client and then your router. BUT itl still be slower surfing.

What version router? What firmware? Have you thought about running open source firmware for your Linksys? Are you fowarding 1 port or many ports? What bt client?
Dont mean to be so inquisative but itll help troubleshoot.

There are quite a few different firmwares you can run which offer many more options for the user. I have no experiance with your bt client but have had no problems with Azureus and bit tornado. YOu should adjust the amount of bandwidth your client is using, this should alleviate what seems to be a bandwidth problem.
when i am seeding and want to cruise the net without delay i will set my upload to about 1/3 my upload speed.
You have a nice router capable of much more then what linksys offers. here
as to why run another firmware? you can turn your 60 dollar router into a 600 dollar router.

I have the same Linksys router and use Azureus as my bittorrent client. When I start a large download such as a linux iso, it runs for a short time and then the wireless connection starts disconnecting. After this starts, you pretty much have to restart Windows XP.
Up on Azureus' website, it says there's a bug in Linksys' uPPP support causing the connection to crash. I have all the latest firmware updates from Linksys and for Windows XP and the problem is still there.
I just noticed in another thread you can find here
that stopping the wireless zero service after connecting seems to solve the problem. Does anyone know about this?

Connection problems
I keep getting a problem when trying to use utorrent. I went through a port checker website and followed the steps there to open a port. And I still get a message saying "not connectable, a firewall/router is limiting your network traffic." I'm using a wrt54g router with firmware ver. 8.2.03 . Any help at all is greatly appreciated.
