Help!!!...connection Probs!!!
So my nieghboors comp shuts down during a storm,and he doesn't have a surge protector
 ....when he reboots it just starts over and over...goes to Windows screen then starts overI plug in my postprobe and get code FF96 Error Code Explanation FF96 = IP Transport not active. Try a windows repair...I can't......won't let me. OK so I do a fresh install of XP....install new D-Link ethernet card....nothing. I swap that out for an old Realtek Ethernet card nothing still Keep getting message Limited Connectivity or cable is unplugged. Open up new cat5 cable, try that nothing. Try another PCI slot..........nothing. WTF!!! Tried to repair connection...can't finish becuase of TCP/IP is not enabled. When I go into Network Connections I see Local Connection is unplugged...Local Connection 2 has 27 packets sent and 4 recieved...Connection 1394 has 0 pacs sent 0 pacs recieved. Can someone tell me how to enable please...and will this work??? Never had this prob B-4.......Thank in advance top all who help

try resetting the tcp/ip stack:

last time i saw that error it was actually a problem with the device dishing out the IP's, which happened to be a DHCP windows 2000 server that had run out of IP addresses to use... but i bet youve just got a router giving them out. in which case turn that off, get some cheapo software that can dish out dhcp addresses and see if it works... or you could try forcing the IP and see if you can actually transfer some data.

I even tried it with MY connection cat5........right from cogeco's modem.......nothing.
I'm wondering if something on the mobo shorted during the power surge???. I've even tried all 5 ports on my ethernet switch Quote:
