Firefox connection issues

ok, so I have firefox portable on a jumpdrive, and I brought it to school. Went to use it and I had some issues. First a little background, I had firefox working for a while and connected to the internet thanks to a friend who showed me how to find the ip and port#. He had it entered under "manual proxy configuration" under networking, but when I went to set up and ssh tunnel it went down, and I lost it.

Now it wont connect because of my school, and I think it might be a firewall limiting connection to a certain port, or something since. We do have WebMarshal which is one of those programs to limit access to myspace, facebook, etc... but I don't think that's the problem. Correct me if I'm wrong though because I need all the help I can get here.

I think it's gotta be the school router/firewall/server since I've been going through dos with netstat and ipconfig trying to figure something out. I think I might need to be connecting to the gateway, but I don't know what port to use. I've tried 80, 8080, and others for HTTP but none let me through. Idk if maybe I'm just using the wrong ip or what, but it's starting to get ot me. I haven't tried it yet, but I think maybe I might need to use the DNS server ip... just a though, gonna try it 2moro.

btw- yes I know "I shouldn't be trying to use FF at school if it isn't allowed, and I may not have gotten caught for it yet, but I will" and all that. Yes I know it's a bad idea, but there's no turning back now since I'm already in.
