Are you trying to use the Belkin to dial into the modem? If so, then you need to have the network cable go from the 'internet' port on the Belkin to the modem.
Do you have the instructions for your Belkin?

Thanx,
sorry I do not understand, I have no modem to connect the Belkin to. My original Netgear WIRED router packed up & am trying to replace it with this Belkin a friend gave me with no manual. Please note:- 1. The adaptor powering the Belkin is an odd one I found, still 12v but 1A, & have no idea what the correct one should be. 2. My B.Band is not wireless one, only paid for the wired one, although this netgear says wireless on it. 3. Have not been successfull when I typed 192.168.2.1 in address bar to get in the belkin setup. 4. Can you explain too, where does this "Wireless" thing comes in, what is it supposed to connect to wirelesly, the AOL wireless B.Band to which am not subscribed to, or to my wife's ancient PC & my very old Del laptop none of which have wireless on them. I am utterly confused. ..............nick I managed to get these out of the Belkin:- Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. What did your Netgear router plug into to get the internets? It's going to be a box of some sort.
That box will likely be your modem. If the Netgear plugged into your phone line or television cable, then the Netgear was your modem. In that case, if the Belkin is actually a modem, then it would have to plug into the phone line/cable in place of the Netgear box. The wireless feature is to allow wireless connection to the Belkin, which means that once you get it properly set up, a laptop or other wireless-capable device could connect to it and use the internets. Find the model number of the Belkin and Google it along with the keyword "manual" and download the instructions for your (new to you) router. |

Solved
Thanx again, I do not know what I did & finally after the upteenth time repeating your instructions it seems to work, But I am afraid to switch it off in case I cannot get on the net again.
