Not able to use built in sound card or PCI sound card
Hi!
I currently unable to use both the motherboard sound card and a PCI sound card I bought. With the motherboard sound card I get blue screen and with the PCI sound card the computer just freezes. It happens during login when the login is almost finished. Another symptom is that the computer is overall slow (if I type to fast in this forum, the CPU Usage reaches 100%, mostly because of iexplore.exe. The CPU is a celeron 2.2 GHz, so it sounds strange for me). I am able to start the computer normally without sound card, but only in safe mode with sound card. This is the blue screen message: STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000065, 0xEFFB2A03, 0xF7C539CC, 0xF7C536C8) sysaudio.sys - Address EFFB2A03 base at EFE8C000, DateStamp 41107f1a The computer is a PC with Windows XP Pro SP2 with the latest windows updates. Background info: I just reinstalled windows on the PC (The reason is that I just bought a license for it). Before I did that the computer was working fine. As far as I know the sound worked and the computer was not slow like now. There were just one minor problem when I installed a new internal DVD burner about a week ago. At first it did not work, but after I switched to another power cable it started to work (it had at least some power before, because I could open and close the DVD player, so I do not know why it worked after changing the power cables). The whole installation process went fine until I installed QuickTime 7.2. That was the first time (as far as I remember) that I got the blue screen. After that I started to always get the blue screen during boot up. After I did some things that I now do not remember the blue screen started appearing during login instead. It is worth mentioning that I used Autopatcher to install the Windowsupdates. What I have tried so far: - Updated windows from the internet. - Searched for new audio drivers using automatic finding on the web (found none) - Searched the motherboard manufacturer website for audio drivers (found none) Did a repair installation of Windows XP - Tried with PCI sound card instead (motherboard sound card disabled) - Finally found the motherboard CD with drivers and tried to install them. The installation hanged between each driver installation. When I forced the installation program to quit, it continued to install the next driver. So each driver seemed to get installed anyway somehow. Non of the things made any difference and I am starting to run out of ideas on how to fix it. Because the computer worked fine before, it seems to be a driver issue, rather than hardware issue. And because the computer works in normal mode (though is slower than before) without any sound card it seems like the problem is at least related to the sound. I will be extremly greatful for any hint on how to proceed! Jeremia Morling RIDE IT Advisor International Cooperation Cambodia |

Hi!
Thanks for your incredibly fast reply. I will try that tomorrow (the clock is 1 AM here). I will post the result in about a day. Quote:

Problem solved
Hi!
I did what you said. I made a clean install of Windows again and directly after the installation I installed the drivers for the motherboard's different components. It worked fine. Thank you! |
