the funny thing is that once again the uninformed consumer has chosen the lesser in qualtiy of the two options. VHS vs Beta - Beta was way better in terms of quality which one won VHS. HD DVD's are better quality less quantity and which one won Blu Ray. thats basically what gets me a little upset.

Well, Sony made a good move putting Blu-ray into the PS3. It seems their plan of getting the format into as many homes as possible paid off.
Other thoughts - Better quality and less quantity? HD DVD can be manufactured by updating old DVD machinery. I don't see how "less quantity" is valid. $500 for a Blu-ray player is steep. However, lets not forget that Toshiba was charging just as much when HD DVD first came out. The recent price drops are in lieu of the battle lost. Toshiba was willing to lose money on every player sold to try and gain advantage over Blu-ray. Btw, PS3's are the only internet connected option (as far as I know) for a Blu-ray player. Personally, I'm waiting until a standalone player has an internet connection before I buy. PS3's start at $399, not $500. Also, there are still hybrid players and drives for pc's. If you're a fanboy or bought HD DVD prematurely, those should pacify even the most jaded.
