Actually, titles will still be released in HD DVD by some producers. Warner Brothers has said that it will produce them according to demand. LG also will continue to build its HD DVD players.
However, I don't really care. I'm happy with DVDs, and Sony will never take my money. 500+ for the player, and HOW MUCH for the movies? Its rediculous. I won't spend that kind of money on movies. I'm happy with DVDs, which I still enjoy, for less pain at the store.
Pfft, people talk about pain at the pump, but then they go sink money into things like this left and right. Can you say stupid?
Personally, I'm kinda disappointed. HD DVD wasn't as expensive, and it seems that once again the consumer ran itself blindly into a brick wall by demanding the more expensive hardware and "software." Looks like people are still easily conned into buying "more expensive is better." Like moths to the flame.
[/end rant]

the funny thing is that once again the uninformed consumer has chosen the lesser in qualtiy of the two options. VHS vs Beta - Beta was way better in terms of quality which one won VHS. HD DVD's are better quality less quantity and which one won Blu Ray. thats basically what gets me a little upset.

I have already chosen!!! DVD, it is less expensive. And if I'm saving up for a G8 GXP, you can forget HD DVD or Blue Ray. Blue Ray especially... boy thats almost 1,000 out of my down payment for the player and some movie titles.

Well, Sony made a good move putting Blu-ray into the PS3. It seems their plan of getting the format into as many homes as possible paid off.
Other thoughts -
Better quality and less quantity? HD DVD can be manufactured by updating old DVD machinery. I don't see how "less quantity" is valid.
$500 for a Blu-ray player is steep. However, lets not forget that Toshiba was charging just as much when HD DVD first came out. The recent price drops are in lieu of the battle lost. Toshiba was willing to lose money on every player sold to try and gain advantage over Blu-ray.
Btw, PS3's are the only internet connected option (as far as I know) for a Blu-ray player. Personally, I'm waiting until a standalone player has an internet connection before I buy. PS3's start at $399, not $500.
Also, there are still hybrid players and drives for pc's. If you're a fanboy or bought HD DVD prematurely, those should pacify even the most jaded.

Fortunately, DVD players will be around for a while. I can still go buy a VCR.

i didnt mean less quantity in terms of how many were manufactured or in household i just meant the blu ray can hold 25gb (50gb DL)while an hd-dvd holds 15gb (30gb DL). thats what i meant by quantity
