Dvd copier
hey guys. im going on a trip very soon (less than 2 weeks) and am in need of a dvd copier that can transfer dvds to my hard drive so i can make a duplicate disc for my own use. all of my movies are css protected so im in need of a dvd ripper that can break that css protection and copy the dvd (just the movie) into 1 big file. any ideas?

I believe DVD Shrink does either or, IIRC.
Btw, just FYI..."ripping" is separating a DVD back into it's associated files. "decoding" is the process of removing the DVD encoding to a standard video format such as AVI.

DVD Shrink analyzes the movie, and will then let you select what you want to copy (so you can remove stuff like extra features, foreign audio tracks, etc. to lower disk usage). Then you can back it up to your computer "rip" not "decode". Then you can burn a copy, it breaks or retains the copy protection, not sure which, but the copy works just like the original, so it doesn't really matter what it does.
Just note that unless you have a DL DVD burner, you'll have to let it compress it a bit, although I've never noticed the quality go down (but if you have a 1080p tv you might).

you need to get a copy of anydvd and use that to handle all your encryption problems. it's only like $40 and is probably the best piece of software i've ever purchased. plus i think you get free updates for life.

you can back up a dvd to hard drive or convert a DVD to another format.
* Backing up a DVD will get a VIDEO_TS folder which includes many .ifo, .vob and .bup files. You only need use player software to open the "VIDEO_TS.IFO" file and it will index the whole movie.
* Converting a DVD to another format you will get a single file (of course you can choose rip by chapter or size, etc). Usually if you need higher quality and don't care of space, try avi. If you need save space and don't have special requirement of quality, try mp4.
I suggest you try ideal dvd software (search by keywords "ideal dvd copy" or "ideal dvd to ipod converter", "ideal dvd to avi converter"), it provides many copier or converters.
