New motherboard no display showing when turned on

OK this is a new thread from IDE hard disks won't open bla bla bla BECAUSE i have researched and seems this problem is completely different now.

I would like to start off by saying...I AM AN IDIOT. This was the first time I had connected and set up the mobo with its cables by myself. Usually my dad helped me. Anyways. When I connected the hardware from the mobo into the case the power etc....I took off two jumpers that set the FSB over clocking settings...(yes I am freaking retarded) not knowing that I had basically overcloked the mobo without having started it for the first time. Well since then I have reset the CMOS jumpers and put the two jumpers back in to the spot that sets the FSB to default settings while having had the power disconnected from the mobo. Still I get no video input with the video card that I have now tested (my old PCI-e x16 GeForce 7300 GS works fine in my dad's comp). Technically I should be getting a display and the BIOS should pop up right? I mean, I did reset the CMOS to clear and then back to Keep data and put the FSB jumpers back into the default setting. Still no display.

I know I messed up and it was stupid to take the jumpers out without checking what they were there for.

But ANY help at all will be appreciated. The Mobo is a P-43 Neo MSI mobo. The processor is a 2.13 Intel Core 2 Duo. ram sticks are DDR2 Corsair 1 GB sticks one of them at 1066 mhz the other at 800 mhz. My PSU is a 600W atx.

PLEASE help before I have to RMA the thing back to newegg for another one.

Have you been able to plug into the onboard video card (and do not plug in the other one)?

I would be going back to basics, which you have started in order to get to a BIOS prompt or message.

-Reset BIOS
-Remove all unneeded peripherals (just unplug both power and data cables) including drives to start with
-Check Motherboard PSU connectors are plugged in properly
-Check Memory and CPU are seated properly (clean and replace thermal paste on CPU heatsink)

Power up system and look for
-PowerLed coming on
-Fans spinning up
-Video on screen (bios, message or flicker etc)

Then once you can get to that point you can look at plugging in other accessories and drives, etc.

Let us know where you get up to.

I've done mostly everything except one thing. I haven't been able to plug into the on-board video card because I don't have the right cable for the plug. BUT I have one theory. I am now thinking there's something wrong with my CPU and this is why.

Before my old system (old mobo) crashed and stopped booting up completely...I had tried overclocking my system via the BIOS screen. Now granted I researched before I overclocked but i still didn't really know what the hell I was doing. I do remember not having noticed a difference though and having set everything back to the defaults the same night. Well the next day when trying to turn on the comp it wouldn't. So my dad and I took a look at it and tried everything to get it running and guess what! The same exact thing happened that is happening with this brand new mobo. All fans turn on heatsink turns on fans connected to the mobo turn on BUT! No video output. So my theory is that I screwed the CPU when trying to OC when not knowing how to do it right.

So this is my plan. I have 30 days to RMA the mobo for a new one in case it is defective. I am going to order a new CPU on monday and try it out on the new mobo that should now be back to factory settings...unless it is defective. If with the new CPU I STILL get no video output then it HAS to be a defective mobo in which case I will RMA it for a new one. I tried my new 8800 GTS today and still no video output although the video card fan was running... So apparently the mobo is getting power...it just isn't posting....so..........................it must be the CPU. If after all this I still fail at receiving a video output I will just kill myself.......lol jk I guess I will have to buy a different motherboard. Everything will be brand new... I hope it does not come that far though.

Thanks for the help. You don't know how thankful I am. I will keep this thread up-to-date and hopefully it will be helpful to others...

There are a few things that can stop it from bringing up anything on the screen.

Power Supply (voltages and current)
MB Fault
CPU Fault
Mem Fault
Graphics Card Fault.

Double check nothing is contacting the back of the mothboard other than where it touches the mounting points.

I read up on your boards memory requirements (the little I could find on that board). It requires DDR2 memory. If you want to try a pair put the 800MHz in socket 1 (which is closest to the centre as you said) and the 1066 in socket 2, if that does not get anywhere try moving the 1066 to socket 3.

So what does it do when you apply power and press the power switch - the fans spin up (chassis and CPU), the power LED comes on... do the keyboard LED's blink?

The best thing would be if you could do what you did for yor graphics card and test the PSU, memory and the CPU (one at a time) in a good system (do not put other ones in your MB), then you will have narrowed it down to the motherboard or configuration (like it possibly defaulting to the internal video).

Good luck, I would also be trying to check if you can get your hands on or your machine close to a monitor with a VGA connector.

This is specifically what happens when everything ic connected and I press the power button:

-Fans spin (3 that are connected directly to the PSU, and one that is connected to the mobo)
-CPU fan spins
-(brand new) Video card fan spins
-power LED comes on (I assume you mean the ones on the case b/c there are no lights on the mobo)
-IDE cable connected CD/DVD rom drives will not eject when pressing the eject button although their LED light shows that they are on (I have tried 3 different ones and the same problem occurs with all of them...when they are NOT connected to the mobo but still to the PSU then their trays DO eject)
-There are no beep sounds at all given off by the mobo.
-THE KEYBOARD LEDs DO NOT COME ON AT ALL (as if the keyboard were not connected, it is a regular plug so not USB) ..does this signify anything that will help me figure out where the issue lies?????

The following is what I have tried:

-Using only one stick of RAM and both (in every single slot)
-Tested PSU on a working systems and everything went well
-Tried with no RAM installed, no hard drives OR CD rom drives connected and still nothing.

The only thing left to do for me right now is wait for my new processor to get here so I can see if it was my processor that gave out

And of course try a VGA plug that connects straight to the mobo video output....

Let me know if that info can help me narrow this down to anything. These facts are as precise as I can get them.

That is good reporting on yur testing done.

Just so you know the machine will not start without working PSU, MB, CPU and RAM as a minimum sometimes also a video card.

The pictures look like your power connectors are both in properly.

The fact that the keyboard LEDS do not flash is an indication that you are not getting to the point where the cpu is running the bios initialisation, so at least one of the key items are not working. If you have tested PSU then it is likely to be MB, CPU or RAM since your graphics card is new since this problem started and your psu is not faulty.

This also means it is not likely to be anything to do with the onboard graphics.

The drive not opening is normal while the MB is stuck in a reset state (with the data cable connected).

Good luck with the cpu and keep us posted on your progress.

Thank you so much John Frank!!! It really feels good hearing this. At least my theory of the CPU being messed up is...well most likely true.

So this is what I am going to order:

-Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33 GHz LGA 775 95-W
-Zalman CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU cooler
-And some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

It will really be a heartbreaker if I get this stuff and my system still does not post...in which case I will send the mobo back for a replacement.

Well... The new processor came... Same ordeal occurred... Instead of AGAIN trying to only connect certain things and doing that with a amillin combinations I just gave up. I am not even going to replace it. I am just going to return it for my money back and get a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R for 30 dollars more... NEVER going with MSI again...and I should've known better than to order a product that had ZERO reviews. This one has almost a thousand and way more than half are 5 egg reviews and it's a 2-time winner of the customer choice awards for intel motherboards. Check it out if you want and tell me if I am making a good move with the mobo this time... lol hopefully when I get this one everything will work...

It is better test with just the bare minimum plugged in to eliminate possible problems, once you get used to it there are not a lot of combinations to play with but rather build the system up in stages as each previous stage works. One other thing you have not been able to rule out so far in your tests is the RAM.

That is a shame, good luck with your next try but do remember the point I made earlier, it won't work if any of these items are faulty.

That is true. If god forbid this motherboard will not post either, then the ONLY thing left to do is get some new RAM...it will be the only part of me components that is NOT brand new.. and yes I will run the system with minimum components first: CPU, Video Card, and RAM
