Need a double check!
Hey guys,
I am attempting to fix a pc for a friend, its quite an odd case since it will power on but then nothing will happen, the hard drive is spinning but doesn't sound active and nothing comes up on screen (literally nothing i get a no vga signal message), and the fans ARE spinning its a case of the lights are on but nobody is at home! I have pulled most the components out seperatly to make sure they are working, that included the RAM, HD, Graphics card and PSU. So the only thing I can put it down to is the either the mother board or processor, if it is the motherboard has any come across something like this or is it time for a new mobo?? Specs of the computer are: P4, 512Mb DDR, 80(i think) Gb HD, old Ati radeon card Any help would be amaazing!!! Niall ![]() |

Actually, I have that same exact problem with an MSI motherboard which I'm going to have to call about later today since it was already RMAed once for the same exact problem (grr... i hate them...) so yeah, I think it's a bad mobo but there's always the possibility that it's the CPU.

Ok cool, I suspect if its two of the same problem then it proberly is the mobo, though I think its going to be quite a hunt looks fairly old, any one know if P4 mobo's are still sold? Most places seem Out 'o' stock!

do you know what socket it is? cause ive still got an old P4 system that's a socket 775, which is pretty easy to get right now. I don't know if all or most P4s are 775, but if you could check somehow... or just tell us what motherboard it is?

lol yes i agree! I wasnt at home earlier so couldn't look!
But it is a Gigabyte GA-81848 PM |

they still have some socket 478 parts on newegg so i'd look there, but i'd also try to find another CPU to borrow or something to test and make sure it's the motherboard and if another one works on it then you know you just need a replacement CPU
