MB Temperature

My BIOS for my A8N32 Sli Deluxe has 2 temperature readings. One Labeled CPU and the other labeled MB. What is the MB temp? The Southbridge?

It's usually Northbridge, but sometimes it can be near the VRM circuit, or just randomly placed... I never pay much attention to those readings myself, as they hardly ever tell you where it is, let alone the way those software readings are disgracefully inaccurate.

Couldn't agree more. Pick up some thermal probes from RadioShack (or something similar at your area), those are around 3 bucks / each.

Buy a few, if you can afford, you could get amazing combo ones, like 3 thermal probes with a LCD screen. Then you could "stick" those probes, whenever you want, one on the northbridge, one on the CPU and one on HDD or GPU, depending where you want.

Errr...how inaccurate is inaccurate? I've relied on my CPU temp ever since I got the thing. MB temp, not so much because it can be anywhere between 6 C above or BELOW the CPU temp. Where would I put the probes? How would they be attached? /me flails helplessly in despair...

It's very easy to mount them.

Here's an expensive one, with LCD screen: link.

As you can barely see... it's an LCD panel and a wire... on the end of that is the sensor.. it's small, so you can mount anywhere.

Where to mount it? Well, personally, I've got one which makes direct contact with my CPU. I've placed it on right-up corner of cpu socket (LGA775), put a little AS5 on the end of the probe and i've mounted the heatsink on it.. but it makes direct contact with the CPU. You could do the same.. also northbridge has fanless cooling systems (usually), so you can take them off, or just set the probe near them... it's not hard. You could even tape the probe...
