Good AM2+ motherboard?
Hey guys, I'm looking for a good motherboard to pair up with my 8800gt video card for roughly 100 bucks or less. I am having a bit of difficulty distinguishing what's going to give me the best performance for my dollar. I prefer to not use an MSI board as I have had problems with them in the past. A x2 6000+ will be going onto this board as well. Thanks!

No responses here so far... but whats the most current chipset available for for an AM2+ motherboard. I'm trying to get the best performance I can for the money, before I actually purchase this stuff.... Motherboard is really the only thing holding me up with building this rig. Thanks guys!

I have been looking at this motherboard... would like some feedback if possible. Only thing I see as a downside is that it does not support SLI (not sure if i'd use SLI anyhow). Would it be a problem that this motherboard has a 4 pin CPU power connector being that I am using a 6000+ 125w processor? |

Looks like a decent AM2+ board to me with all solid capacitors.
Video cards are getting so fast now that ya don't need AMD Crossfire or Nvidia SLI unless your gaming on a 30" monitor or larger. You would probably want to pair this mobo with the newest ATI HD4850 or HD4870 card and some good DDR2-1066 ram. Your 6000+ cpu shouldn't be a problem on this board since its listed in the acceptable cpu's list at Gigabytes website

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I already have an 8800gt, but if ATI is really staring to pass up Nvidia in the graphics department, it is definately something to look forward to in the future. Is the chipset on that Gigabyte motherboard one of the newer chipsets? Also, 1066 memory wont be recognized with an AM2 6000+ will it? Would it be advantageous to get the 1066 memory anyway, even if it will be downclocked to DDR800? (In case I were go go to an AM2+ processor eventually)

Thanks again for the reply.. I found on this particular page the memory specifications that it accepts.
http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_ComparisonSheet.aspx?ProductID=2624 In red it also sais that whether or not it will clock at 1066 depends on the processor. I guess I'm still debating... It would probably be worth getting the 1066 ram for future upgrades. Is the chipset on this motherboard newer, and suitable for a new rig with upgrade options for the future in mind? |

Your right, I didn't see the "see support list" for 1066. You'd probably be better off getting the 800 memory if your gonna stick the 6000+ in it. I'd bet the 1066 is for the AMD AM2+ quads only I run 2gig of DDR2-800 on an MSI board with a 5600+ Windsor core AM2 cpu and its been a good rig so far! |

Yeah, I was leading towards that as well, but I had actually contemplated upgrading to a quad in the next year or two (as soon as games start to utilize it). I figured getting the AM2+ was a smart decision since the socket is FAIRLY new, and they will likely be making quads for it in the foreseeable future.

Being that the AMD SB600 chipset is an ATI chipset, will I run into any issues running an NVidia video card? Will this effect performance in any way?

I'm not real sure about this question From all I've read, All AMD chipsets are supposed to be ATI videocard only motherboards To run an Nvidia card, you would need an Nforce or Via chipset I believe. My current AM2 MSI mobo uses a Via chipset that lets me run a GeForce 7800GS I'd PM Stang and ask him about this as I've never had an AMD based chipset and can't really answer for sure! |
