Do motherboards usually beep on boot

Hi I'm a newbie at building computers and I just finished my first build. Everything seems to be working fine, except my motherboard beeps 3 times when I first turn the computer on. I don't see any error messages. Could these be beep error codes? I checked online and I guess MSI uses an LED thingy instead of beep codes? I couldn't find anything about if this board is supposed to beep or not.

anything other than a single beep is an error code. i'm not familiar with that companies' error codes. Turn the PC off, unplug it, and just double check to make sure everything is plugged in correctly. It may be worth it to unplug and replug some of your components just to make sure

I'll try unhooking everything but the essentials and see if it still does it.

okay the beeps came back and I was going crazy trying to figure out what was causing them. I kept getting a seemingly random number of beeps on boot until I realized it correlated to how many usb devices I have connected. I've never seen anything like that before. None of the usb devices have any problems. I'll check out that link you posted. Any other ideas?

I looked at the beep codes and they don't match the beeps I'm getting. Everything works just fine except it beeps for every usb device I have connected when I turn it on. Not a big deal I guess, but it's kind of annoying and I just want to make sure there really isn't a problem.

Yes I can load windows just fine. I couldn't find any setting to disable the beeps. I'm going to try updating the bios.

This guy seems to be having my problem as well:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/motherboards-bios-cpu/60058-beeping-usb-peripherals.html

Edit: after googling some more apparently its part of the USB initialization and can't be disabled. Thanks MSI

Who's idea was that? "Hey lets use the error reporting system to count the number of USB devices and not tell anyone lolz"

Did you check to see if MSI has issued a BIOS update to change that behavior or give you an option to disable it?

Unplug the beep lead on the motherboard IF there are no problems.
