Computer wont turn on. CPU fan issues.
When I press the power on button on my PC, nothing happens. No fans start, no lights. The only visible light is the standby light on the motherboard (which shows power is getting to it). If it has just been plugged in, the fans/computer lights might start for about half a second then they stop again. Any pushes of the button after that does nothing.
- I have tested 2 PSU's I just tested the paper clip method of joining the green and the black wire on the PSU/mobo 10/12 pin connector and the computer boots, the PSU fan comes on, the case fan comes on, the light inside the case comes on. However, the CPU fan does not start up with this method. I have heard that it is not good to leave your computer in the paper clip method state. I also tried joining the red and black wires that connect to the ON switch to make sure it wasnt the button, and still didn't work. So my problems: - To find a stable way to get my computer on. - Get the CPU fan working. (Has this got anything to do with the fact that the 10/12 pin connecter is not directly plugged into the mobo and is only getting power due to the paper clip method, joining the black and green wires. PS, this is not a new PC. It was fine this morning, and when I tried this afternoon, it was like this. PSU's: Antec 430W Codegen 400W CPU: Intel 3.01 ghz RAM: Geil sheilded ram, not sure about CAS but 2 x 512mb MOBO: Albatron PX915P Pro HDD's: (have tested with them not plugged in also). 250gb sata 80gb ide CASE: gamedude or something. with the blue light in the fan at the front and the little container that slots into the case. Sounds like you need to use a volt meter on the PSU leads. The documentation will show you what you should expect to find. If it all checks out then you need other hardware.

If you have already swapped out the PSU, then it sounds like the motherboard is damaged. Time to upgrade.
