Can my ddr2-800 ram run at 400 mhz if my processor only has an fsb of 266 mhz
Hi,
I currently have an Intel Q6600 processor with an fsb of 266 MHz, and some DDR2-533 ram. I want to upgrade my ram to DDR2-800, but my motherboard only supports up to DDR2-533, so i'm thinking i need to upgrade the motherboard as well. My question is whether i need to upgrade my processor as well or will it be fine running asynchronously, the processor fsb at 266 mhz, and the ram at 400 mhz? Thx ahead

The cpu will be fine your Q6600 wont need to be replaced, by default my motherboard also ran the FSB at 266, i have OCZ ddr2-800 ram and managed to actually overclock it to run at 430 stable running synchronously.
