Asus P8Z68-V LE Help
I have the Asus P8Z68-V LE motherboard. It has 6 SATA connections. 4 Blue and 2 Grey.
Blue Blue Blue
Blue Grey Grey
I also have 5 internal HDD connected to these SATA connections on the motherboard. One of course being the main c: drive and the sixth connector is for the SATA DVD/CD burner.
All HDD are as follows:
1. C: (1TB) Main drive
2. D: (1TB) Storage
3. E: (3TB) Storage
4. F: (1TB) Storage
5. G: (2TB) Storage
My question is.....which HDD goes to which connector correctly? I notice that with the connections I have....when I click on D, E, F or G....it takes a few seconds for windows to read the drive and then the contents show enabling me to views the files. This happens every time I open windows explorer. The C: drive gives me access just fine. What are the Grey connectors for?

As per your motherboard specs:
Quote: Intel® Z68 chipset :
2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), gray
4 x SATA 3Gb/s port(s), blue |
So the Gray connector is for 6gbps max interface speed and blue is for max 3gbps interface speed.
So connect the drives that support 6gbps transfer speed and if you have more than 2 connect the 2 that you want fastest access to.
In terms of which drive to plug into which connector it does not really matter in which order they are plugged in.

Ok....thanks...but what about the slow reading of all the drives except the c: drive? When I click on them it takes about 5 sec for windows to reveal all files on each of the other drives. But the c: drive access is instant

If so, then it is the power settings for your drives are probably set to spin down when not in use. Also there is usually a delay the first time they are accessed as the drive tables have to be loaded into memory, while the C drive is done during startup as it is accessed by the system during that time.
What OS are you using and what are the power saving settings?

Yes you are right. It was the power settings having the hard drive to spin down after 20min. I changed the settings and now all drives work just fine without any delays. Thank you for you assistance. I am using Win7 Ultimate.
