Universal Computer?...IDEA!

Hello,

I am at a design phase for building what I call a universal computer. Still design phase, name may change.

This is going to be a open source project.

The device is essentially a portable computer. That is the ultimate goal for it. It would be able to plug in to different monitors, TV's and even a LCD screen. Be able to have WiFi and other ways of connecting that the user might want.

It would be able to fit into your pocket as well.

Now to where I need help. I have never done anything like this before. I have done research, enough to get it done.

I know I would need a processor, form of BIOS, I plan on using flash for internal memory which means a flash controller, and also a power distributor and controller. Ram and video card are considered outside of the core device just in case someone isn't please with the given ram or video card they can replace it.

There would be slots if you open it up where you can plug in serial ports for developers and internal add-ons.

Any advice? Ideas, or contributions? Open source I will accept anything.

Good concept, size is going to be an issue with space for the add on options.

I would suggest you take a look at the Intel website for information on chipsets as this will help you get started on the requirements for the bridge chips you will need and the items that are in the core design.

Thanks, I did research on chipsets. I didn't even know about them till' you told me. Looking at a computer that I use for development. The size would be about how I see it. I could get it in about the size range I am thinking. About 6 inches by 9 inches. Of course that won't fit in pants pockets, but it would be able to fit in coat pockets, and briefcases. Technology will hopefully improve and make things smaller.
