small small small gets you integrated GPU. Cooling a mobile GPU is hard work in a laptop. The smaller the computer, the harder. If you are looking at a small notebook, I would imagin it would be possible to play those games.
If you are trying to go along the lines of a big PDA sized, you'd have to check to see what type of hardware it has. Sometimes it has it's own GPU sometimes it relizes on the CPU.

Instead of opening another thread
Hey, I'm going back to university in september so i thought that I'd start looking for a lappy to do my final year on. My current lappy is on its way out (has been for a while) and its also really cumbersome (5 years old...HEAVY!)
So here is my thought. I would like something with the portability of the Lenovo X60 but with an optical drive. It really gets on my wick that there isn't a version from them with a DVD without buying their dock. I was looking at the Toshiba R500 and thought 'AHH finally found it!' But then i looked at the price and thought 'Nah im good without' A prime example of what I'm looking for is the ibook G4 12" machine. Its a really beautiful machine that has a decent sized keyboard and a DVD! there are only two flaws, the OS and the spec. Its too old for my uses now, true its only coz I'm a geek and love leading edge stuff. Money isn't *too* much of an issue coz I've been saving up although still I don't want to pay the earth I am still a student. I was also looking at the Sony Vaio SZ series. Its slightly bigger at 13.3" which means that there is a full sized keyboard which is great and it has a fairly decent gpu too. Again the only thing is the price. |

Get a macbook.
The OS (Mac) shouldn't be a reason not to get it. For a laptop around uni and stuff its perfect. You can always load xp or vista on it as well if you decide that you want that later as well. It's not a super ultra portable but weight is no issue with mine (They run just about 5 lbs), but with mac os it will just keep running at running. Price costs you anywhere from $1000+ and make sure to look into student discounts because that can save you a chunk of change too. |
