No they are just severely underpowered... They may play a game but they won't play one well...
Going dirt cheap is not a good way to spend money... And the fact I've been having the same conversation witih osiris for the past like 2 weeks.. he finally settled on an n800 with a keyboard.... about $300 after everything

well i dont want a phone, i have an openmoko. i just think an UMPC is tight. if i wanna game, ill game on my monolith pc, i just want something for work and taking notes that isnt that big, something that i can toss in the back of my car in a duffel bag and not worry about it exploding

Well first off the nokia 800 isn't a phone...
Secondly you keep changing what you want from the computer. If you just need something for notes something like a cloudbook would work just fine.

Well no laptop under $500 is going to have good video capabilities. Most likely you will be on a celeron chip (or via with like a cloudbook) on integrated video, and shared ram. At $500 you are normally talking about it running 512-1gb of ram, and most of the time will have vista now, all of these things just never add up well for anything gaming...
That said, my moms friend just gave my parents a laptop she bought like 2-3 months ago (a cheap acer) as she just bought a new one for her work. And it runs basic applications just fine on a celeron ad 512mb of ram running vista basic.

Hey guys speaking about ultra portables (l know lm necroing this) l just got word my work will be carrying one call the v-book. Word has its gonna retail for 299 and its got linux (weighs less than 2.5pounds) 4.5hr battery life and 2gigs ssd with 2 usb ports. l'll get some more info on it when l find out.
