Keyboard Enter key types letter "p"
My laptop "enter" key has started to print the letter p when I hit the enter key. Started today. Does anyone have ideas as to why this might happen? It's a Compaq Presario.

my keyboard is messed up? typing wrong letters
I have a problem there are four of five keys that are typing two letters together
for instance spacebar is typing "p ", that is letter p and space and they key p is typing the same "p ", that is p and space. That is spacebar and p are performing same function and also key "6" & "h" are performing same fuction they are both typing the same "6h" Suggest me where may be the problem? is it physical or is the something that needs to be fixed in the registry Jas |

I think it's a dead or dying keyboard. Just get a new one that works for cheap.
I also think this thread is way old, and am happy that someone searched . Other forums I go to rarely use the search. ![]() |

Take out the keyboard and check all the contacts.
Have you spilt anything on it recently? Maybe the underneath of the keys etc. could do with a dusting/wiping down.

I see that you are facing the issue with the Keyboard as when you press enter key it displays a "P". To resolve the issue perform the reinstallation of the Keyboard drivers. To perform the reinstallation of the Keyboard drivers the below are the steps: === Reinstalling Keyboard Drivers === To reinstall the keyboard drivers on the Compaq Presario system, follow these steps: 1. Start Windows in Safe mode by holding the Ctrl key during Startup. 2. Click Start, Settings, and choose Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Select Device Manager. 5. Click the plus (+) sign next to Keyboard to list the keyboard drivers. 6. Select one driver and click Remove. At the warning prompt, click OK. 7. Repeat this process until there is no listing for keyboard. 8. Close all windows and restart the computer. On restarting the computer, Windows will auto-detect and reinstall the keyboard drivers. |

I, too, had a keyboard problem ... many of the keys were messed up and displaying incorrect letters, symbols and spaces but I found the "fix" at Microsoft support forums -
easy way to find is to go to windows update then click on "Get help and Support" from menu on left. or you may find it there by the article ID number: Article ID : 321498 Revision 2:2 To resolve this issue, remove all instances of keyboards other than the standard US keyboard. To do this, follow these steps. This applies to ALL pc's with Windows XP standard operating system- regardless of the manufacturer of the pc. NOTE: If you press NumLock on the keyboard of certain Dell portable computers, this makes different characters available when you type. To make the keyboard revert to its standard functionality, press FUNCTION+NumLock. 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Regional and Language Options. 3. Click the Languages tab. 4. In the Text Services and Input languages pane, click Details. 5. In the Installed Services pane, click any keyboard listed other than US, and then click Remove. 6. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes. 7. Repeat step 5 until all listed keyboards except US are removed. The keyboard now works in all programs. It may require reinstalling the keyboard drivers as well (as explained in a different post on this thread). Good Luck ! Last edited by miscellaneous : March 26th, 2008 at 02:10 PM.
