Installed XP on my new notebook
Model is Everex XT5300T

I just bought it.

It came with vista but the notebook only had 1GB of memory, so I wiped and reload with XP.

Then installed all the drivers and now my notebook won't shutdown/restart.

It hangs at "Windows is shutting down" and have to hold the power button to turn it off. I have pinpoint the problem and its the wireless drivers. I have downloaded the ones from everex and also the ones from windows update.

Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter

Any ideas on how to fix this and retain my wireless operation?

how did you install the drivers? did you install the drivers and applications, or did you install the drivers only, like through device manager?

try letting the exe extract the files. then just point the hardware in device manager to the extraction directory. i've experienced problems with some of the driver software before, especially on fujitsu lifebooks.

Sorry Sandman for leaving you so quickly, I was late for work by 10 minutes.

Thanks for trying to help me but I managed to get it working.

Apparently nvidia's " Display Driver Service" was stopping the notebook from powering down or rebooting.

I'm gonna go find some other drivers/software for my nvidia 8600M GS.

Here's a simple solution go to Nvidia's Control Panel and then to 'Change Powermizer settings' and set it to 'Not manage my power consumption (Disable PowerMizer) and then uncheck the box 'Extend battery charge by using less power for display' and then shutdown the machine. It will hang like clockwork at first but after that it should work properly.

Well that didn't do anything, the minute you run anything 3d intensive and then when you're done and you want to shutdown, it does the same thing.
