Buy an Lenovo ThinkPad R61i or an Lenovo 3000 N100?
Hello,
I have two options, either a ThinkPad R61i for about $1100 or a Lenovo 3000 N100 for about $900 (those are the prices availiable in Sweden). What notebook would you buy of them? You can find the specs for the N100 at http://www5.pc.ibm.com/se/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_TY0FWSW?open&OpenDocument&epi=web_express (0768FWG) and the specs for the Thinkpad at http://www5.pc.ibm.com/se/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_NG18BMS?open&OpenDocument&epi=web_express (76508BG). I would also appreciate any comments on why you would prefer one of the notebooks above.. but not necessary... (also, if you know anything about it, does one of them have a better screen than the other?) Thanks in advance, Oskar R |

What did you choose?
Although several months after you post, I'm in a position to buy either of these as refurbs...
Just curious what you ever decided... thx! B |

the winner is R61i

I did end up with the R61i, due to integrated fingerprint reader and smart card reader. Not quite sure what possessed me to get a smartcard reader... but hey.. why not? The biggest downside to the R61i, and most laptops is the lack of internal upgrades. The refurb thinkpad I have only comes with the Intel mobile 965 chipset, and it displays a movie or my spreadsheets just as pretty as any other low-end video would, but I can't believe I actually thought a game would run on it. So in the end I would have been happy with either laptop. That said... there is an issue with the core2 duo processor (T5250 in this case) when running on battery, there is a high-pitched squeal that other online forums blame on the CPU changing power states based on your power settings. If you plan on doing heavy work outside on battery, be prepared for noise. |
