what about replacing the LCD screen?

Do you think replacing the LCD screen could help? And is there somewhere on the web that explains how to clean the connection as you described? I paid a guy $150 to fix this problem and it was a waste. I'd like to do this myself if I can. Thanks.

I have the power board out of my 8104 and should get the replacement in the mail within a few days. I'll let you know how this turns out.

Fixed mine FINALLY!

OK, I finally replaced my "Power Board" PN DA0ZF1BB8F2 with a part I found in Canada. It seems every part supplier in the US is out of stock.... Hmmmmm wonder why? This fixed all my problems. The battery status, charging function, intermittent display are all cured. The board sold for about $30 but they charged me another $21 to ship from Canada. The part number I received was actually DA0ZF1BB8F0. Both were REV F. The only difference I could see was the location of one screw hole plus the lack of insulating tape as was on the F2 board. You may want to remove your old one to confirm before you order the new. The Canadian part number came up as NEW Acer Travelmate 8100 Charger Board 55.T72V7.001. You can google either the ACER number or this canadian number to get the board your looking for.
