900p or 1080p for laptop (Which Dell)
As many of the regulars here know, I'm trying to find a suitable, less overpowered replacement for the Sony seen in my sig.
Best buy has a Dell Studio Xps 16, seen here. It is 900p, I've seen it in person, the screen quality is gorgeous compared to the lackluster 1080p on the Sony. I've had a Studio XPS before, albeit with a lower res screen, and it was a very solid computer. The resolution on the screen seems perfect for web browsing, as 1080p is also overkill if you like to run your browser full screen.
Dell online also has the 15" Studio laptops, which come with the 1080p when configured. For around the same price, I can get one of these fully stocked to the same specs as the Studio XPS, but with a 1080p screen. 1080p definitely has its advantages, being able to see as much as I can, but if I don't really need it as a CE/CS major, is the eyestrain really worth it?
What does everyone think, should I go for the higher build quality of the Studio XPS and lose Bluetooth and 1080p, gaining better sound in the process? Or should I go for less speaker quality, a very high DPI, and get the studio?

My desktop monitors are 2048x1152 and 23". The DPI on those things is already insanely high for a monitor. Now while laptops are generally higher DPI when it comes to monitors than 1080p on a 15" screen is just insane.
1600x900 on a 16" screen is going to be more than enough for you.

my old 15" Dell Inspiron was 1280x800 and it looks pretty nice. I'd say the newer better 1600x900 screen is probably much better then what I had. For that size screen I worry that 1920x1080 is just too small. That's what my 21.5" LCDs run and I think this is an excellent size, any higher and it'd get tough to use because everything would be so small.
An aside, I'm curious to know why displays haven't really pushed past 72dpi. For example why can't you have a monitor that runs, say 4K, but everything is the same size as a 1080p display, it'd just be like having a physical AA x4. Think of how amazing things like text would look at that resolution, but it wouldn't be tiny and hard to see. Why does font point and pixels still have to be so related? Why can't we have 300dpi displays?
