Thanks for running a test It's always a huge help to see data!

I noticed you used a screenshot of the ctl-alt-del Performance.
I had done my own test related to this, but the screenshot is on my other 'puter. But I can relate it in words
What the screen shot showed is that the ctl-alt-del Performance can give extremely inaccurate measurements of the RAM usage:

I ran a program process that used all of my 2gigs DDR. The Control Panel..Administrative Tools..Performance window showed the memory was maxed out at 100%. But the ctl-alt-del Performance window showed the page filing at the bottom of the graph.

After seeing this, I never trust the Memory part of the clt-alt-del Perf. window.

that's because the page file is the overall available memory, including Virtual memory on the HDD. I'll bet if you did the same thing and looked at the "Physical Memory the 'Available' field would be close to if not exactly the 'Total'.

that's one of the main difference 32-bit and 64-bit... the amount of memory that can be asupported. a 32-bit system can only support 2^32 addresses of memory, while a 64-bit system can address 2^64 addresses... thus doubling the amount of memory a system can have.

do you enjoy necromancing every single thread you happen upon? -_-'

and yes, there is a limit in windows and what not, theres even a limit for hdds and what not until there was an update n stuff.

nevertheless, you can never have too much ram. hence why we now see people with 2 gb going on 4, from the ancient 64mb win98s.

if you think a thread should be closed, then i guess you should close it (IF you're a mod), or just simply not participate in it.

well since I've already "necroed" the thread, my opinion goes as follows

the results posted shouldn't be looked at as only five second differences, but percentages. these are still 10% differences. In content creation, this can mean a difference of minutes, hours, days, even weeks!, depending on what you're doing. and while creating content, you'll never have an optimal amount of processes running. You'll have several tools you are using.
