Newbie needs ram :P

Hey i really dont know too much about ram, i know the different types, and i know that some of it is better quality and gives better performance... well I think that i need some new memory...

I wasnt sure if this was the correct place to post, but its the only place with memory in the name.. so i figured i might as well since its a memory question.

First off my computer:
compaq custom(yea yea i know :P)
1.6ghz p4
640 pc133 sdram(yea i cant use ddr with this comp, also, the ram is a micron 128, micron 256, mosel 256)
radeon 9500 pro
couldnt tell ya the mobo because its just a peice, but cpu-z says its a compaq 077ch

Okay, anyways, i play anarchy online and ive been getting lag and jerkyness when i shouldnt be because my computer and graphics card are more than enough to handle this game.... so i am lead to thinkin that its the memory.

Somone i talked to in the game told me that i should check to see the latency i get on my memory, Cas# latency is 3.0 for me.. which is like the worste...

I am wondering if getting some new ram, even though its still gotta be sdram, would fix my problem? I am thinking about waiting around till pci express and all that comes out next year to get another computer, and this time ill be building my own, so i got some time to read up on stuff between now and then.

I just wanna know if i could get some good ram for a decent price and if it would fix my problem.

*edit* hey i was just looking over at newegg and i saw this... maybe it could be the thing that i really need to fix up my system? i hear corsair is the best...

Don't think it will help very much as you have 640mb (if I read correctly) and a 9500pro. What you really need is a new case mobo mem and CPU. $280 for decent stuff.

Thats why i said new case. but you can get a decent case for $35.
Here are some good upgrades

Mobo Abit NF7 ver2 $90
1700 dlt3c $65
256mb OCZ PC3500EL (get more later) $80
excaliberpc.com is great for all of this stuff.
You could use your old hard drive and install new copy of winxp (find a friend) or you could get some $65 new hd install xp and use old hd as slave so as not to lose files.

The rest of the stuff you use from the compac... may need new PS but a cheapo ps may come with a $35 case. (upgrade ps later)

About $280 minimum with shipping.

For people who don't post much they have to post all their thoughts in a few concentrated posts.
