Best performance
Hi,
I am looking to upgrade the RAM in my machine. It currently has 1 gig DDR2/667 and I'd like to expand to 4GB DDR2/667. There's 2 ways I can do this, 4x1GB or 2x2GB. My mainboard supports dual channel mode whatever that means. What would give me the best performance? Here are my mainboard specs.

Either way will work, as long as the motherboard supports the sticks. Be sure to read your users manual carefully, as there may be issues with certain combinations of DDR2 DIMMs.
Dual channel means that the board can double the throughput to/from RAM when you have matched sticks in their respective matched slots on the board. For this reason, you can often buy your RAM as kits of two or four identical sticks to take advantage of dual channel.

As long as they are in the correct slots. Refer to your users manual.
Also, there may be a slight performance advantage to going with the 4x1GB kit, since there is a little less internal overhead management going on in the 1GB sticks compared to the 2GB sticks. And, since all four sticks are identical, you can plug them in the four slots and be assured that the dual channel feature will work as advertised.
Be sure to read your users manual regarding RAM to make sure that the kit you are buying will work for you.
