4x1gb vs 2x2gb?
Alright, I was just wndering if I got 4x1gb of ram, would this be faster thn 2x2gb of the exact same colck and timings, or would it be the exact same?

And it leaves you more room to upgrade.
If you have 2x1GB already go ahead and get another 2x1GB kit, just try and get the same kit. If you don't have anything look for a 2x2GB kit.

Yes, performance wise there's pretty much no difference. As I've mentioned in other threads before, as long as they're all dual channel, and matching, than both channels are 2GB and run at the same speed regardless of which combo you go with. Like bball said, if you're keeping some and expanding, do that, otherwise go with the 2x2GB.
One important thing to check though. Look up your motherboard's specs to make sure it can support 2GB per slot. Most should now-a-days, but you don't want to buy it and find it's not compatible. |

If your motherboard can handle 2 x 2GB modules I would recommend going with those rather than the 4x1GB. There will be no performance difference whatsoever and you will have 2 sockets available in the future to upgrade if you need to. Just be sure as everyone else has stated that your motherboard can handle 2GB per socket. You can scan your system using aememory.co.uk or crucial.com.

Personally no big difference though, I think 2 2G should be better, easy for future upgrade.

In all reality, you will get better performance from a 2x2 configuration rather than a 4x1 configuration. This is due to the chip alignment on the RAM module and the fact that two slots require less power to run than four.
However, both of these differences are completely negligible. You would never notice a difference in experience. These guys are right. If you're expanding, go with a 2x1 to finish out your 4 gigs. If you're starting fresh, go with a 2x2 and leave room to expand later. Good tips, guys.

2x2 is better than 4x1 bc loads less the latances of the ram and the performance is better.
