1600mhz DDR3 on a 1333 Board?

So i'm currently getting ready to buy the parts for my new AM3 build. So far i'm looking at:

ASUS Crosshair III Formula AM3 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131392

mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146777

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674

My queston is that the ram is 1600 stock and the mobo supports 1600 by OC. Are they compatible?

Update: I might instead save money by getting a RAM combo, same deal though, the ram is 1600.

Not sure but until one of the experts jumps in; I think this chipset will only natively clock at 1333, when the chipset is OCed it will run at 1600, this means it is the chipset that has to be oc'ed and the memory you fit needs to be able to run at 1600.

Well the memory runs natively at 1600, while the board runs natively at 1333, but supports 1600 by overclock, so I would assume the board would recognize the ram anyway as an overclock, or I would just have to go into the bios and change the clock speeds on the ram up to 1600. If the board down clocks it to 1333.

I think you will have to go into the BIOS and OC the memory settings to take it from 1333 up to 1600 if you also get the 1600 memory sticks.

JohnFrank is correct. I have an ASUS ROG Rampage formula motherboard, it supports some pretty high FSB. By default it can detect upto 1066, currently i have 800 ram installed.

By manually, in essense overclocking, the FSB i managed to run it at 1720.

Im sure that the mobo by default will go the highest native FSB at 1333, you will have to go into the bios and definitely change it to 1600.

Hope that helps and good luck with your new rig!!
