How's it going?
I know I have been on leave from here for a while but want to get active on this board again. Some of the old regulars might remember me. My life just got really busy for a while and this kind of went to the wayside.
As of right now I graduated college magna cum laude and landed a job doing Help Desk Support at an IT Consulting company in Madison, WI. It's a pain in ass job but it pays the bills. Eventually when I get the money I'm going to go back to school and get my law degree and also an MBA.
Otherwise now it's just working and life (and studying for certs if my head isn't numb from dealing with people who really shouldn't be on computers). I just got back from PBL (college FBLA) nationals and took 1rst in Information Management and 5th in Networking Concept at the National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN.
I lost my driver's license for the next 6-8 months depending on the conviction of my major traffic violation so the pace of life is slowing down for me as I am now walking everywhere. Thankfully everything I need, including work, is within a 15-25 minute walking distance. I used to drive 140 miles (2.25 hours) each way on the weekends to go back to my hometown so it was nothing to drive 300+ miles a week. Now it's down to 0
With this, I'm going to have some more free time and spending a lot more weekends in Madison so I'll be on here a bit more often. Just wondering how everyone is doing? I'm looking forward to catching up with some of the people I lost touch with.

And these forums are dead these days--just look at the huge gaps in TLTE.
The court case hasn't concluded on it. My driver's license is administratively suspended and the court will decide if the 6 month minimum is enough or if there needs to be more tacked on depending on the circumstances.
Just let me put it this way, I am lucky to live in Wisconsin where we're the only state where the first offense is a traffic (civil forfeiture) ticket and not a misdemeanor. Other states I'd be facing a decent amount of jail time due to the high BAC that came back from my blood test.
If you didn't get it by now, I am being charge with OWI (Operating While Intoxicated, aka DUI in other states). It happened 2 months after my 21rst (which DNGR I am now legal to drink lol).
I am not proud of it and I can tell you this really sucks. Even though Wisconsin is lenient, the fines, license suspension, and having to go to alcohol assessment\class. Right now until I can get a restricted license, I have to walk or bike everywhere. I can tell you when it's 100 degrees it's not fun. I'm just happy that everything that I need is within a half hour walk or bike ride.
Plain and simple, I did the crime (or major traffic violation here), and I have to rightfully do the time. This is pretty much like house arrest for me as I used to drive to my hometown and hang with my friends there. I never really go established here so having limited mobility means spending a lot more time by myself.
I can tell you sitting in jail for 12 hours to sober up really sucked and was a wake up call. I don't get how anyone can become a repeat offender. Jail sucks and 12 hours there makes me never want to go back. Hell if I have a single drink, I won't drive (when I get my license back). There's no point in risking it.
I guess on the bright side is I have to adjust to the slower pace of life and not being able to get places instantly. This allows me more thinking time and also provides a decent amount of exercise.
I guess I'm starting to recapture when I first joined the forums before I had my driver's license, where the forums were a huge part of my life and so was exercising and being in shape. I hope to drop down to the 140 pounds I was when I was a freshman in high school. Also hopefully I'll become as disciplined as I was then. I guess time will tell.

Sorry to hear about your suspended license, maybe you will appreciate being free to drive more when you get it back.
Cheers

I can tell things are slow here. I guess these types of forums are a legacy of web 1.0 and so many people have moved on to web 2.0. It's just crazy how much things have changed. I remember how active forums were in the past and now it seems like everyone is flocking to Facebook and other sites.
That's good everything is good with you and yes, you are right, I will love it to have my license back. One of the things I love to do is go on a random drive to clear my head. I guess people just need to learn from my mistake and not drink and drive. You will eventually be caught and the consequences aren't pretty. I was stupid enough to do it and now I have to accept the consequences.

Back to the ghost town. Married and done with it. Of course name change still has to happen, but when we get time.
Only one thing that really pisses me off. When we went to the bank to ATM deposit all of our checks, I didn't know that I couldn't deposit most of them at the ATM because they were addressed to Mr and Mrs McCue and since we don't have a joint account she has to be there with me at the counter to deposit. The reversal occurred on June 28. Well ain't that grand.
At first I figured it was no biggie, we would get the copies in "7 - 10" business days according to wachovia when I called them the first day(a freaking long time for the so called information age). They never arrived, so I call Wachovia/Wells Fargo. The customer service person has no idea what happened; but of course she wouldn't really have that info anyways. Moving on, she told me that she could mail them again and it would take 7 - 10 business days.
Wow thank you. No rush for me. I only have some checks (our money) that are being held in abeyance that appear to never have been mailed out. Its okay. I don't mind.
You know, if the situation were reversed, and it was Wachovia's money, and I had it for almost a month whilst giving little effort to get them to Wachovia..... I WOULD BE IN FUCKING JAIL!!!!!!!!! Late on a payment by 1 hour. LATE CHARGE! INTEREST RATE HIKE!!! But they can do whatever the @%#$^)(* @%*@) % )*@% they want with our money and we just have to wait "7 - 10" business wee......er days to get them. WTF!!
Anyways, other than that I feel fine.

Now that I'm fully on my own and experiencing this BS on a daily basis, I have found very little sympathy for any corporation or big business. They seem to care about screwing people than anything.

Hey Cody,
I know we seem to catch up from time to time on fb or msn or whatever but ive been having a lot of difficulty myself as of late and not been online much.
I now have an EEE PC netbook 1005HAG (the one with a built in 3G sim card slot) and thats my only source of internet atm, not sure how long this one will last, probably until im desperate for money again lol.
I, like most i think, have been popping in only a couple of times now and again, to check on the longest thread, but even that seems to have disapeared
personally ive had one hell of a year, been kicked out of my flat, lost jobs, gone travelling, run out of money, come back and now looking for a job again... all in a nutshell lol

Its a lot more complex than that. It is more like they only care about their business and themselves and not who works for them. Investors are more important than customers now. Earnings statements, etc etc..... Just look at what Dell did. They misdirected investors by failing to disclose crucial information. That had a direct impact on their stock value and the overall value of the company as an investment.
Toyota worked hard to hide defects and failed to make recalls; only having done so after extreme public pressure. Regardless of what anybody says, they put their image above their customer.
Banks and the real estate industry have spent the past 2 decades convincing people who didn't make enough money that they could afford to buy a house that was too big for their budget. They didn't care what would happen; and I know there were plenty who knew it. They probably were fired for daring to display such anti-profit behavior. They put their greed above their customer, and thought that they would make heaps of cash. Look what happened? Next time they won't be so lucky.
There are big companies that actually do give more of a hoot about things other than maximum profits. They are usually private companies, rather than publicly traded. Everything is about the stock market these days.......

I lost my job and can not find new one, there is no need for C++ in Croatia right now.
Currently I am considering alternatives.
There is primary school nearby and I considered drug dealing but there is problem with that ... it is a little bit risky since I do not know any people in police to protect me.
Stealing cars is not an option because there is so fucked up her e right now and noone have money to buy cars.
I really haven't been up to anything new... I went to a vocational school for the last 2 years of high school for networking which worked out nicely. Now I'm in college for networking. Hoping its all gonna work out and I'm not just wasting my time and money on this career.
Sucks that you got picked up for OVI, but its better that you hurting or killing yourself or someone else. At least its not like Ohio where if you get a DUI you get special yellow license plates (aka party plates! lol)

Heya Cody_e! I'm not going to place judgement on what you did -- we all are human & make mistakes. I am proud of you, though, in the way you are handling it!! I'm also proud of you for saying you've learned from your mistakes. Yes, 12 hours in jail should be a wake up call & I'm glad you answered that call!!
It's so hard to believe you've graduated already! Seems like yesterday you started college! So much has changed since then...wow!!! CONGRATS!

Yeah I kind of took the express route and got my bachelor's in 2.5 years. I'm happy to have it now and be working. Hopefully I can get back to school for my law degree and my MBA soon.
@the other guys down on their luck. The times really suck now and just keep working hard and you'll find something. I was fired from my job last November and it took until March to find another job. I had to moved 140 miles from my hometown back to Madison, WI. You guys will eventually find something.
