Question Processor upgrade

id like to upgrade my
intel core2duo E4300 @ 1.8GHz
(in a dell optiplex 745) to an

intel core2duo E6750 @ 2.66GHz
(from an hp compaq dc7800p)

I installed the E6750 in the dell and booted it up but the screen remained blank.

I have just downloaded the intel chipset driver from the hp site (only 2 megabytes?), will installing this on the dell make make it recognize the chip, or is there something else i have to do first?

The Optiplex 745 is only good to 1066MHz FSB, but your new chip, the E6750, runs a 1333MHz FSB. Chances are that the board doesn't recognise the pin configuration on your new CPU..

Basically, you can't use that chip in that computer. A lot of people have used 1333MHz FSB chips on i965 just fine, but that's what you get for buying a Dell

Seriously though, if I were in your situation, I'd sell the E6750 and buy myself an E6700 instead or something similar. Or spend the money down the pub..
