Phenom II X3 720 vs Core i5 vs Core i7 gaming?

I'm planning to buy a new computer. I don't have a lot of money, so I'm going to sell my current one, and build an AMD computer with a Phenom II X3 720 and an HD 4890.
Here's my question:
Should I keep this computer, should I sell it and buy Core i7 and an HD 4870, or wait and buy Core i5 with an HD 4870/90 depending on prices?

Thanks!

Core i5 for gaming

Bear in mind that the Core i5 CPU's will be able to directly communicate with the PCI-E bus.

I'm thinking about getting either:

Intel Core i7 920/HD 4870
Phenom II X4 940/HD 4870 X2

dude save your money. just get a second hd4850 and buy a new monitor. No need to upgrade from a e8400 to a i7 920 bec ause the difference is non existant. Id just overclock your cpu but that again depends on what motherboard you have.

Gotta agree with starwarskid on this one.
I have an XEON E3110 (brother to the E8400) and a 8800GT and can play anything out there.
The best thing to do is get another Videocard....if you can get 30FPS+ at a given resolution, your just wasting money.
By the time your system starts to stuggle with a game CPU's/GPU's will be much cheaper

if i were you, i'd wait 6 months until westmere comes out. the only reason why i7 and i5 are so hot is because its new, but a year from now, you'll realize it was nothing special.

Well then he may as well wait another 6 months after that for a new chip to come out.

Waiting is pointless when it comes to computers, because if you wait, then you may as well just keep waiting and never buy anything. There is always something faster in development the moment it's predecessor hits the shelves.

Not true, right now, i7 is over $250. When Westmere comes out, Intel, if they keep their tick-tock plan, will lower the price as they have with the E8400, once $220, now $168. It all comes down to price/performance.
