Pentium 4 M 755 (SL7EM)
Hi all,
This is my first post and Im sorry if this is a sill question but Iam having some difficulties with my CPU in my laptop. I am experiencing very high CPU usage % levels. I have read other forums RE: similar issues and most say to run AV Suite scans and Spyware/Adawar scans to check for nasties. I have done this numerous times and also reformatted and started from scratch just to be sure. I have also been watching Task Manager and the CPU usage levels and they reach 100% even when the computer is in idle (and this is not the system idle process either) I work in the IT industry and have tried all the common troubleshooting but there is little change. What I would like to know is, can an Intel CPU become damaged or not function properly. I mean my laptop works but sometimes it locks up and stalls due to high CPU rates. I was thinking of getting a new CPU and seeing if this helps. My other resources (memory etc.. ) are not the issue either. If someone could clarify whether a CPU can become damaged due to overheating etc but still function at a reduced capacity then I might try a new CPU. Thanks |

Firstly, it's not a P4M, it's just a PM. Secondly, go to task manager, look at the task list, see which process is using your CPU.
If its explorer.exe, end task on it, then File>run and restart it. Should fix that prob. If it's another process, figure out what it is, or just end it mindlessly. If it's System, then flash your bios to the latest firmware.
