yea back in the days i was on amd side for the big cpu battles but now seriously i hope they have a secret trick in their pocket cause this is gonna be a hell of a battle

well usually all the extreme high end processors comes out around 1.1-1.2k $ so i guess thats normal ....

Is it really over for AMD??? What about barcelona guys?? Does it have a chance against intel penrynn?

AMD's response towards the Core Duo will come in December in the person of the Phenoms ( the desktop version of the Barcelona). But a Phenom will cost around 249$ - 280$ and with her price and performance is more like a good competitor for the Q6600. I say that AMD is still battling to reach Intel, that with the Core Duo architect leaped ahead. Sadly the future doesn't looks bright for AMD. Especially after i saw the first 3800 series GPU tests.

Loosing money one thing, it is related to the past and that's already gone. But with the new GPU/CPUs being weaker than its competitors is a sign that they will also loose money in the future and thats the sad part of it .

just becuase their chips aren't the fastest isn't as big as you think it is. It's all about the low end and mid range. This is where the companies start putting money in their pocket. I work at CC and we don't sell a computer with anything better then a 8400 GS graphics. I didn't see any quad cores Most were AMD X2 or E2100's with Intel 950 Intrgrated graphics or 6150''s.

Well but have you seen the price of the 3800 series? It's not meant to compete directly with the 8800 ultras or whatnot (but stang tells me there may be dual gpu 3800). I mean the 3800 is in the $150 to $250 dollar range, and for that price they will be incredible cards.

But we will have to wait and see...

If AMD can take the mid-range and low-end CPU and VGA markets for themselves while not losing a massive amount of revenue, then they might be able to gain the money to come back on top in a few generations...

AMD is right now battling against two very very big company (intel and nvidia) - and in terms of cpu, intel is the obvious choice and in terms of gpu, nvidia is the obvious choice!!!

They have so many prebuilt rigs(Gateway & Sony that I saw) with 8800GTX and Quads inside them it is ridicuolous. Prices are not that bad either.

I just got this news that Intel will release a processor named " Nehalem " and I see the specs and it kick ass

CC doesn't have good cards in it because it doesn't target the enthusiast, but they got good prices compared to best buy.

The thing is, when you have the fastest hardware, generally it is awesome for advertising. Many people ask me who has the fastest, and it generally has an effect on their decision.



Its a hard hill to climb. Intel is a monster, which can take several hits. Even if AMD does get to the top, Intel will still make much more profit. AMD, on the other hand, is barely breathing. I hope they do come back.

Personally I think the CPU and VGA markets are cyclical. One major company on top for awhile, then the other for awhile, then back, then every once in awhile an old company dies and a new one swoops in to continue the cycle...

In the states maybe , but sadly here in Romania the first 3870 cards are ~ the same price as the 8800GT( just ~15 advantage for the AT ). But hey maybe that will change in the future

Well the 3870 is possibly going to be more, but there should be more than one version of the 3870. And don't forget the 256mb model, the 3850
