actually I have not. I had an opportunity about three weeks ago to get my hands on one but told them no thanks as it is still to early to tell from the results that I have seen. The extreme one is the only one that can even come close to giving me what I need in terms of getting points on hwbot that would take over what I have done with my E8600. It is going to take at least 5.4GHz in order to even have a chance of competing in the bulk of synthetic benchmarks. Sure it will dominate in 3D06 and vantage but overall it is just to large of investment at the time. Especially when the mobo that I would get with it would be in the neighborhood of $600~$700 dollar range.
Now while up to this point all results have been done with ES chips I am still watching for what the silicone in the retail batches bring to the table. If you look at the reviews also the triple channel vs. dual channel is really of no gain atm. Hopefully with BIOS updates this will change. Also for all you gamers out there don't look for this to be any big help as from the comparisons I have seen this is not paying the bills vs the penryn lineup when you look at the cost/performance ratio. Simply put this a server grade technology that I just can't justify the mainstream computer user as any real need for. That's unless you are into building dataservers in your home ![]() If I do get one it will b/c it was given to me for review purposes which I am hoping for very soon ![]() |
