As you can see from my title, i'm trying to fugure out what processor i should get for my major overhaul of my current PC. Some say the Q6600 because its a Quad and its futureproofing and some say the E6750...

I Can't make up my mind!!!

Please help me decide

Thanks and happy holidays,

I would say the Quad core because as you said its future proof, and outperforms the E6750, not by much though!
Both of the chips have high overclocking potentials. The Q6600 overclocks to 3.0Ghz on air, and the e6750 overclocks to 3.6Ghz on air. (good coolers must be applied)

If you are willing to use liquid cooling, overclocking capabilities of the quad core will be way higher, as it has a FSB of 1066. The reason why the 1066mhz of FSB is better than a 1333Mhz of fsb is because latest motherboards can only support 1333mhz as a max, and so, you would notice as much difference if overclocked really high. however, you have along way to go if you overclock with the quadcore.

But it all depends on you, if you're a hardcore gamer, go for the quadcore, but if you are just a power-user,ie.,like using powerfull PCs,i'd say the core 2 duo.

The newest quads can reach 3.4ish on air, so the difference isn't as great, I'd go quad. Not sure how expensive the new quads will be, but they will be a beast, like 4.5 GHz i believe. Seen screen shots of like 7 GHz quads

Just remember that those high clocks that everybody sees are from the extreme multi unlocked versions. I am assuming that the locked multi versions will be equivalent to how the E6750's are currently clocking with being able to reach 3.8~3.9GHz in best case scenarios.
