E8400 outperform AMD 6000+?
Hey guys,
I've posted in a few other sections, but I have almost talked myself into RMA'ing my AMD 6000+ that I just bought and getting an Intel processor (E8400) - thank god I havent bought a motherboard yet. Would this be a wise decision? I really like the lower power consumption of the Intel CPU. Do you guys have any motherboard recommendations for this processor? I do mostly gaming, and would like to keep the mobo under $120 if possible. Thanks in advance! |

In a word
YES JMO or you could get an Xeon E3110 same as the E8400 I would also say you will see a 35% to 50% increase in performance with an E8400 over an AMD 6000+ As far as prices go E8400 $189 AMD 6000+ $113 Is $75 dollars for a 35%-50% increase worth it...YES especially if your into gaming. It also futureproofs your comp a lot more If your not into Overclocking the Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G is ok. If you want to Overclock I would go with a DFI BloodIron or some ASUS Mobo. Just be careful of which board you get....some you have to do a BIOS update b-4 the E8400 will work

Yes the e8400 will outperform it and it will also cost you more.
They really aren't in the same market, so yes going to a higher end market you will gain performance.

I made the purchase, and this is the motherboard I got. Is the bios on here correct for running the e8400 wolfsdale processor? |

Sup guys!
New computer is built so here goes! OCZ Stealth 600 watt PS Intel Core 2 Duo e8400 @ 3.0 ghz (6mb cache) - Aftermarket CoolerMaster Vortex CPU fan w/heatpipes Zotac 8800gt AMP edition video card 4gb OCZ Platinum RAM DDR2 1066 250gb SeaGate SATA 3.0 Biostar Intel P43 Motherboard So far I'm pretty happy, runs FAST and super cool (actually idles at 22 degrees according to my hardware monitor). I'm going to explore with overclocking soon, so hopefully I dont blow my chip up.... that Biostar board is supposedly really good for OC'ing, but we'll see. Thanks for all the help and advice that everyone has given me! |

Ya it would ....mines running both SMP (core 0)and GPU(core 1)...just gotta change the Affinity on one of the fahcores_a1.exe to Core 0 & 1 ...which with give you 90% on the GPU and the rest on the SMP.
It still folds an SMP faster on one core of my Xeon E3110 than on my AMD 4400+ OC'ed @2.5Ghz |
