CPU problem

I'm rebuilding and upgrading my old gaming PC and I got a new Mobo, ASUS Rampage Formula and a Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz E8400. I just finished setting everything up and I powered it on and it wouldn't do anything. I could hear the fans working and everything, so I took the side panel off and the mobo has LCDs on it to show how much power is going to each area, and everything looked normal except the CPU LCD, which was off. I'm not sure if the processor I got was just defective or I set it wrong, which I'm pretty sure I didn't. I didn't touch the pins or anything. Since the computer isn't reading the CPU, is there a way to check to see if it's dead, or if I just didn't do something I should have. This is my first time building a PC like this. Thanks for any help.

Also, the mobo came with a little CPU LCD display that shows temp, but it just keeps saying "CPU INIT".

EDIT: Ah... nevermind... I feel stupid. I forgot to plug in the 8-pin ATX power connector to power the CPU...

that was going to be my first suggestion... check over all the power connections and if needed unplug them then replug them back in one by one making sdure all the 4, 6 and 8 pins are connected...
glad you got it figured out
