Compatibility Question

Hi all, quick question about the compatibility of XEON processors. I have a Dell Precision 450 workstation with a SL72F 2.80GHz, 533MHz FSB. Would I be able to partner it with a XEON SL7PD 2.80GHz 800MHz FSB processor or a XEON SL6YL 2.80GHZ 400MHz FSB processor?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Well, from what I gather, there is no messing with the Dell's FSB. It stay's at 533Mhz and that's it, it cannot be altered. whether or not you can buy a faster cpu with the same FSB AND get it to work, I couldn't say. Could be an expensive error!

For best compatibility you'll want a 533MHz CPU. There's no guarantee that a 400 or 800MHz Processor will run at all and as Python mentioned, you can't tweak the FSB on a Dell so there's not much room for error.
