I ditched FRAPs recently because on my rig, it just kills the framerates terribly bad trying to do an in game video clip.
I searched around for a few weeks googling and found a pretty good one that has a free trial.
Its called Quick Screen Recorder and has virtually no framerate hit for me. It has allowed me to do some pretty smooth in game clips since the first time I used it.

I upgraded to the paid version a few days ago.
I am very satisfied with it so far

Using the utlity with a dual core AM2 AMD Athlon 5600+ system, 2gig of DDR2-800 ram and a single 7800GS video card
