Custom Keyboard Ideas... Anyone?

Hey all... I'm completely new to this particular forum, but I've been searching for a while and I think this is the best place to ask this question. I need help with designing / building / buying / steeling a custom keyboard thingy... But it's not a usual keyboard, I need to use it with my feet.

To make a long story short; I had a motorbike accident, head on with a car, and my left shoulder slammed into the passenger side door at a rather high rate of speed... And for that reason, I really hate cars. But anyway... End result is a lame left arm from the shoulder down. Now I've been told recently by the doctors that my fingers will never work correctly on my left hand (if they can even get the nerves in my neck fixed any), and as you can imagine this makes paying first person shooters a tad tricky...

After much research and calculations in my rather limited budget, I managed to get myself a second-hand Logitech MX1000 mouse, specifically for the 8 buttons.. By placing a standard keyboard on the floor in front of my chair, I can use my toes to press keys along the bottom row. And It sort of works, but I can help the feeling that I'm still missing out on a large part of my game!

So, here's the question: Does anybody know of a game pad thing that I could use for controlling the basic FPS game movement controls with two big-toes...?

I cant recall anything like that but I do know that Ben Heck has made single handed controllers and what not for people with injuries. Your best bet would be to get hold of him and see what he can conjure up for you

I just recently read a story about a disabled guy who created his own controllers for PS3 so that he can play games perfectly using his feet. So I'm sure it's do-able. I just have no idea how.

Thanks... I'll check that out then, already found BenHeck.com, so I'll see where that leads.

And yeah, it is possible, and I've got a few ideas for a game pad that'll do what I need, but I have no idea how to make it... Oh well, I've only been looking a year so far, and I'm still far from giving up!!

Bonjour!
I have Two thoughts.
One:
You could consider a foot operated mouse. They actually allready exsist!
Check out: Footmouse.
It would be hard to regain your aim, but when you do you can say you "Kicked ass".
Don't mind the cheesy commercial..

Two:
Strap an FPS gamepad to the top of your mouse...
You won't be able to use the mouse buttons, but you'll gane a lot of the.
Example here and here.

Well, I can honestly say I've never heard of that one before! How did I miss it though? A simple google search for 'foot mice' returned a ton of results... I never tried that keyword combination before though. It's kinda pricey though, I live in South Africa, so with the current exchange rate, the FootMouse will set me back R3500 before international postage... *sigh*

I'm not too excited about that idea though, I got a cordless 8-button Logitech mouse, makes life a lot easier.. But I don't think I could really strap anything on top of it anyway.

Still, even having said all that.. Thanks for the suggestions. You've got me thinking about even more alternatives, so the end result is definitely going to be entertaining at least..
