Broken G15 LCD cable

I recently opened my G15 keyboard (original model with flipup screen) to install my carbon fiber skin, and when I put the whole thing back together, the LCD screen wasn't working. Apparently I pulled on the ribbon cable to hard (it's coiled kinda and if it's pulled to much, it gets slightly ripped). I was wondering if anyone knows how to repair something like this. The cable has probably about 10 traces ripped, and they are REALLY REALLY small. IDK if a rework station would help, but if anyone has ideas, please help me. Also, if anyone has an old broken G15, I'd be willing to buy the LCD screen (if there aren't any scratches :\). Thanks guys.

Well, I've never done any work to one of those G15 keyboards, but I've done a lot of cell phone repairs, and they use the same setup for their flip up screens. Usually, when you rip that ribbon with the wires running through it, you have to replace the ribbon, or worse, the LCD and ribbon both if they can't detatch from each other. I guess if you're REALLY steady with a soldering iron you could probably repair it, lol. JK, the heat would melt the plastic ribbon around the wires, which is why a simple repair is usually not posible. Honestly, I think your best bet would be to search eBay or something for one that's broken (like a cut cord, missing keys, backlight doesn't work, ect...) and just use it for the hole LCD assembly. Those are awesome keyboards though; I wouldn't mind purchasing one, but my Dell mutimedia keyboard hasn't crapped out yet, so I really have no reason to replace it, lol. Good luck though and let us know how everything works out.

Well I contacted Logitech and they told me that I can get a replacement for it, but only the new G15. I don't personally like the newer model, and I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me with this problem. I'm looking for a scratchless working LCD module for V1 of the G15, or an entire broken G15 (again, V1) with a WORKING LCD module. If anyone's got one, just gimme a quote and I'll see if I can come up with it :P. Thanks in advance guys.

Sometimes you can repair damaged ribbon cables using conductive paint (the same kind as you would use to repair the heating elements on the rear windshield). You should be able to pick some up at any automotive shop. Otherwise, your best bet to find something like that would probably be Ebay.

Good luck with your keyboard!

Thumbs up

Its really correct that sometimes you can repair those cables, so its better in this situations show your keyboard to anyone expert near to you that will give you direct reason what happens? and for that what to do? so check it, other wise change it....hope so that will work again...all the best to you ........
