I've mentioned in the Multimedia section that Warner Brothers has dropped HD DVD and moved to Blu-ray recently. Over the past month or so, I've been noticing things going the direction of Sony winning the console wars over XBOX 360.
Of course, this is a matter of opinion and I invite you to add yours.
Here's some reasons why I think that the PS3 may be taking lead over the XBOX soon. Firstly, I have to say Microsoft took a huge hit with the "Red Ring of Death" fiasco. Preliminary figures pointed toward one billion dollars (yes, with a "b") to fix the existing units and cover the now extended warranty. Apparently, the issue has been addressed with a motherboard revision in new machines.
Another major factor XBOX fans stressed in the beginning was the PS3's lack of games. Even though there aren't many instant classics in the PS3's lineup, there are some very good games that are out and due out soon. A few examples are Resistance: Fall of Man, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Grand Theft Auto IV, Tekken 6, and Gran Turismo Prologue, with Tekken 6 touting IBM's cell proccessor in Japanese arcades. That particular quibble seems quieted to me.
The PS3 has more onboard capability than the 360 as well. No buying a seperate HD DVD drive to watch high def movies with Sony's offering. There's even some rumors afloat that the XBOX may soon offer a Blu-ray drive. Again, that remains only a rumor at this point. The PS3 will also accept any 2.5" SATA150 hard drive. Microsoft would like 360 users to shell out an additional $175 USD for a 120GB drive.
I can list more and more factors, but alas..I grow tired. I turn it over to you folks for now! Like I said, I'm interested in hearing from both 360 and PS3 users alike!
