Unhappy Ps3 and hdmi problems :(

the problem im having is i just got a hdmi cable for my 80gb ps3 (better model when it came out not the 40gb) and the projector im using is a panasonic ae 2000u. my projector will only report 1080i with the ps3. the projector is 1080p but is black when that setting is used. th 32ft hdmi cable came from deepsurplus.com couldnt find a brand name. its thick and looks well made though.
any help would be great thanks guys.

I'm not familiar with using the PS3 on a projector. However, I have used on LCD's. HDMI cables carry a digital signal. It shouldn't matter how long the cable is, unless the cord is completely severed.

I have seen people having some similar issues when the cable is more than 30'. I'll leave that for you to research. My best guess is that the PS3 or the projector need a settings tweak. Are they both fully updated (do projectors have firmware?). You could try all that, or call Panasonic tech support. They're usually helpful.
