Differences between PS3 80 and 40 Gb?
Hello,
I know that, besides the storage capacity, 40 Gb version has 2 usb ports (4 in the 80Gb) and no card reader. Are those 2 extra usb ports very important? Under what circumstances would you use more than 2 ports? What about the card reader? Is it better (do you see a higher definition/ better picture or movie - mpg's... ) than an external card reader included in/or used with your computer? I was thinking about buying an 80 or 40 Gb PS3 which I would use MAINLY to play standard definition (non blue ray) DVD's. Will these SD DVD`s benefit from upscaling - can you really see the difference? For the above mentioned use, would there be any difference in performance between the 80 and 40 Gb versions? Thanks. |

I've always found the PS3 to do a very good job of upscaling DVD's or anything.
However, the upscaler is a constant among SKU's, as far as I'm aware - the only difference in the two models is the hard drive size, and this will have no effect on standard DVD's. [Edit] Merged your threads - sorry for any confusion. |

Biggest difference is the hard drive size yes, but the backwards compatability only found in the 80gb model is also a rather large difference. If you have ps2 games lying around the 80gb is your best bet, then you can sell of your ps2 or do whatever with it.
