Best LCD for New Consoles?
I'm browsing Newegg, looking for LCD's around $1,000(US). I'm checking out google for brand names and such. The suggestions that I've seen are to stick with Samsung for superior gaming performance. They are higher priced for the size monitor you get vs. Sony or a cheaper brand like Toshiba, LG, etc. There's also the typical off brands like Sceptre (uhm...who?) that offer giant size at the cost of display quality.
Things I'm looking at are contrast ratio, refresh rate, brightness level, and whether or not it has a HDTV tuner, pending the 6/09 switchover. I have heard good things about LG. However, the review on G4 for one of their latest models was very average. It still had tearing even though it had a 120Hz chip. It was also very unpredictable in terms of brightness of color, depending on what media you played. I think I may count them out unless someone had a very positive experience. I'm leaning toward a Samsung, at least for now. It'll be a while before I buy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go into the local bestbuy and look at some models...
That will help you decide.

That's a good idea. I've looked already. It's kinda hard to judge how it'll perform through HDMI, especially while gaming. I'm real finicky when it comes to larger purchases too.

That or fine a few reviews, narrow it down to a couple and try and see them.
Samsung's are great, they are one of the few LCD's that really have a black, so the darker colors look great on them. Really any of the LCD's from the larger companies are quality and you won't regret it. Oh and if you have a membership to either, Costo and Sam's Club are great places to buy LCD's.

I think I've found a winner. The Samsung LN40B610 seems like a good choice. It's slightly above my pricepoint. I can wait a little while though. The specs are very good. 40" (for apartment living), 80,000:1 ratio, 120Hz. Checking reviews for known issues soon.
Oh and best price so far? Sams Club
